Midwives are becoming increasingly popular throughout America, and here at Celebrate Birth, we can’t help but get excited! The use of midwives has given women control over their deliveries, making it far more than just some passing trend. For eligible women, midwives can serve as their primary caretaker throughout all of pregnancy. Because they’re thoroughly trained and well-practiced, their assistance keeps childbirth both a positive and a safe experience. If you’re wondering whether or not a midwife is the right option for you, it’s helpful to first understand who qualifies for this care.
Determining Eligibility
The most important priority for any care provider should be to keep both the mother and the baby healthy throughout pregnancy and delivery. For this reason, if it’s determined you have a high-risk pregnancy, a midwife will most likely refer you to an obstetrician. An obstetrician will have more traditional training regarding these sometimes tricky deliveries. High blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy, bleeding disorders, or the use of certain medications are all reasons for a pregnancy to be considered high-risk.
Thankfully, most pregnancies are considered low-risk. Midwives are able to take on these patients, providing primary care throughout their pregnancies and deliveries. For these women, the use of a midwife is a completely safe alternative! A major advantage to using midwives is their tendency to avoid medical interventions. Because most complications throughout delivery are the result of inventions such as inductions and epidurals, this means you’re likely to avoid these issues all together. Midwives provide excellent care while helping to make your birth as untroubled as possible!
Using a Midwife at Celebrate Birth
When you come to Celebrate Birth for your first appointment, we’ll go over your medical history and current health status to confirm that our scope of practice is right for you. If a serious complication arises at any point throughout your pregnancy, we’ll refer you to an obstetrician for continued care. We love our patients and want to do what we can to ensure their delivery is a wonderful experience, even if that means it’s not with us.
If you have any additional questions about our services, please call us at (863) 680-2229. We would be happy to discuss in more detail whether you would be eligible for care with our midwives and to set your first appointment if that is indeed the case.
