When you first learn that you are pregnant, there are many questions, thoughts, and feelings that rush through your head. A few of them sound like: ‘Will we be good parents?’ ‘What do I need to do to take care of this baby?’ and ‘What are the next steps?’ There is no doubt it can be a little intimidating, especially when you have to decide what type of birth experience is right for you and your family.
Creating a birth plan is a great place to start to help you answer some of those tough questions. A good birth plan can also be a helpful tool in educating yourself about all of your available options, such as whether you’d be more comfortable birthing at a hospital, a birth center, or at home – and then once you make that choice there are even more options to consider! Some mothers feel that a hospital birth is the best choice for them but they still desire the personalized care and compassion that midwives can offer during their pregnancy. If this is you, we’re happy to share that we provide a variety of options for prenatal care, all designed to respect your preferences while maintaining the health and safety of your baby.
One of the services we provide is our Prenatal Only Care. This is a great option for low-risk clients that are interested in prenatal midwifery care prior to their planned hospital delivery. The Prenatal Care Only package includes all prenatal appointments, regular labs, ultrasound referrals and education classes needed during pregnancy. Then in preparation for your birth, you will simply pre-register at the hospital of your choosing and deliver with the obstetrician or midwife who is on call there. Afterwards, our midwives will continue to care for you during your postpartum period with an appointment scheduled at 2 weeks and again at 6 weeks after birth (though you are able to see us more often than that if necessary). Celebrate Birth also provides lactation support in the early weeks and a Pap test at your final appointment. It is the best of both worlds; you can still have supportive, thorough appointments with us while delivering your baby at the hospital of your choosing.
